DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University scored a pair of runs in the third inning to tie the game with North Carolina A&T, but the Aggies went on to score eight unanswered runs to take game two of the weekend series, 10-3 on Saturday, March 9 at the Durham Athletic Park.
NCAT (9-5, 2-0 MEAC) jumped ahead in the first frame with two runs, driven in by Dawnoven Smith (Jacksonville, N.C.) and Zach McLean (High Point, N.C.), but NCCU (5-10, 0-2 MEAC) was able to level things in the bottom of the third.
Corey Joyce (Lexington, N.C.) and
Carter Williams (Brown Summit, N.C.) knocked back-to-back RBI singles to level the game, but from there the Aggies were able to take advantage of defensive missteps to score eight unanswered runs on the way to a 10-3 series clinching win.
Joyce picked up a pair of hits, and
Caleb Coyle (Wake Forest, N.C.) also had two hits with his third double of the season for the Eagles.
Camden Williamson (Greensboro, N.C.) had another multi-hit game with two knocks, and Ryne Stanley (High Point, N.C.) again had multiple RBI with two for the Aggies.
The series finale will be on Sunday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park. Admission is free.
