NCCU’s Raasean Davis Becomes Second-Fastest Player to 1,000 Points in Division I Era

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior center Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) can add another accolade to his Eagle career as he became the second-fastest player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in the Division I era at NCCU during the 2019 MEAC Tournament.

Davis eclipsed 1,000 points in the semifinal win against North Carolina A&T on Friday, March 15, reaching the milestone in just 67 games.  C.J. Wilkerson still remains the quickest to the mark since leaving the Division II ranks in 2007, taking just 56 games before finishing with 1,023 points over his time as an Eagle from 2009-11.

Davis collected 1,032 points during his two-year NCCU career, the second-most in the DI era behind Jeremy Ingram's 1,525 from 2010-14.  He also stands tied for sixth all-time at NCCU with 77 blocks, and 16th with 592 rebounds.  In 69 games, Davis averaged 15.0 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest, while shooting an extraordinary 65.9 percent from the field, the second-highest rate in the DI era behind Jordan Parks' 66.0 success rate from 2013-15.

In his senior year, the All-MEAC First Team selection reached new single-game highs with 34 points against Wilberforce on Dec. 30, 2018, and later became one of just 11 players in the country to shoot 100 percent from the floor with more than 10 made field goals by going 12-for-12 with 25 points and three blocks at Delaware State on Jan. 14, 2019.

Davis closed his career in a strong fashion during his last two games, as he pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds in the MEAC Championship against Norfolk State on March 16, and earned MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.  He then went on to post a big double-double of 20 points and 16 boards against North Dakota State in the NCAA Tournament.
