TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Cold shooting followed North Carolina Central University from Daytona Beach to Tallahassee as the Eagles were felled by Florida A&M, 73-57 on Monday, Feb. 4 at the Lawson Center.
FAMU (9-14, 6-2 MEAC) was able to create some separation in the first half on a 7-0 burst, fueled by a couple of three-pointers from Justin Ravenel (Lithonia, Ga.) to pull ahead of NCCU (10-12, 5-3 MEAC) 24-14 with just over 11 minutes to go. Ravenel kept the show going as he hit a long three right before the buzzer to end the first half with 24 points, and send the Rattlers to the locker room ahead 41-28.
The Rattlers never took their foot off the gas pedal, as they stayed hot from the floor and shot 51.9 percent from the field over the course of the game on the way to a 73-57 final score.
Kamron Reaves (Champaign, Ill.) challenged Ravenel for the game-high as Reaves tallied 23 points, and Ravenel finished with 25 for the Rattlers.
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points and six rebounds, and
Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed with 10 points.
Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.) picked up nine points, and
Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) collected a team-high seven rebounds.
Julian Walters (Madison, Wis.) also added nine points with six rebounds.
The Eagles return home on Saturday, Feb. 9 against Maryland Eastern Shore at approximately 4:00 p.m. following the women's basketball contest.
