HIGH POINT, N.C. – North Carolina Central University rallied to take a lead in the middle innings against High Point, but the Panthers surged back ahead in the bottom of the seventh inning on the way to a 6-4 final score at Willard Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
HPU (3-2) jumped ahead early in the bottom of the second inning on a two-RBI single from Trent Harris (Raleigh, N.C.), but NCCU (4-3) was able to turn the tide in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI triple from
Corey Joyce (Lexington, N.C.) to move the Eagles ahead 4-2.
The Panthers trimmed the lead to one in the bottom of the sixth on an error, but the final blow came in the seventh on a three-run homer from Daniel Millwee (Summerfield, N.C.) to put the hosts ahead 6-4.
Joyce went 2-for-4 in the contest with two RBI, and marked his and marked his second triple of the year for the Eagles.
Vinny Bailey (Raleigh, N.C.) was the second Eagle to pick up a pair of hits as he also went 2-for-4 with a double.
JJ Woodard (Oviedo, Fla.) was the lone Panther to have multiple hits, as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
NCCU will return to the Durham Athletic Park on Wednesday, Feb. 27 against Presbyterian at 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
