Eagles Hit the Mark in Win over Maryland Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – North Carolina Central University canned 10 threes on the way to a 61-48 win over Maryland Eastern Shore, marking the Eagles' first road in in MEAC play in the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Hytche Arena.

After a very slow start to the game for both sides, NCCU (7-9, 2-0 MEAC) found success from the perimeter as it knocked down seven treys on the way to a 36-24 lead over MDES (2-16, 0-3 MEAC) at the half.  Both Reggie Gardner Jr. (Bowie, Md.) and John Guerra (Cary, N.C.) knocked down a pair of triples in the first 20 minutes, and Gardner took a game-high of nine points to the locker room at the end of the half.

The Hawks found their footing in the second half as they started dropping some threes of their own, with Tyler Jones (Atlantic City, N.J.) leading the way with a pair of threes on his way to a team-high total of 13 points for the hosts.  However, Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) was the driving factor for the Eagles in the game as he scored 10 of his game-high 14 points in the second half, helping the Eagles to a 61-48 final score.  Douglas also picked up a game-high nine bounds, and notched two assists and a block.

Almost every Eagle who attempted a three in the contest found the target, as NCCU collected 10 treys in the contest, the third time this year that it has made a double-digit total of three-pointers.  Other stats of note, Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dished out a team-high four assists for the Eagles, and Bryan Urrutia (Chihuahua, Mexico) dispensed 10 assists for the Hawks.

The Eagles will finish up the two-game road trip at Delaware State on Monday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the Eagles' women's basketball game.
