NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior
Chris Kernen (Greensboro, N.C.) has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week after a complete game victory during the weekend series with Florida A&M, the conference office announced on Monday, May 7.
Kernen fired a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits without a walk in a 6-1 victory over the Rattlers that helped the Eagles tie the single-season win record with the 27th win of the campaign. Kernen retired 15 consecutive batters from the first to the sixth inning, and racked up seven punch outs during that run.
This is Kernen's first MEAC weekly honor, and the ninth that the Eagles have collected this season. NCCU now has five Player of the Week awards, and four Pitcher of the Week honors.
NCCU will finish the 2018 season at home with a pair of midweek games, starting on Tuesday, May 8 against Davidson at 6:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park. Admission is free.
