North Carolina Central University Athletics

Career: Has the lowest opposing batting average in the modern era at NCCU at .230 and the second-lowest ERA at 3.80.  Tied for the sixth-most wins with nine and sixth-most saves with three.  Also tied for the sixth-most strikeouts with 119.  Made 40 career appearances with 18 starts, and threw one complete game.  Pitched a total of 137.1 innings.

2019: Made 18 appearances with nine starts and won four games with one save.  Pitched the most innings on the staff with 77.1 and recorded the second-most strikeouts on the team with 68.  Finished top-10 in the MEAC in strikeouts and in hits allowed with 68, and kept the fourth-lowest opposing batting average in the league at .232.  Matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts over six innings in a start against Lafayette with just three hits and one walk in a win on March 2.  Made the longest start of his career against Savannah State when he pitched 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts on March 22.  Only pitched fewer than six innings in a start twice.

2018:  Made the fourth-most appearances on the pitching staff with 22, along with nine starts.  Pitched a staff second-most 60.0 innings with two saves.  Led the MEAC in runs allowed (23) and earned runs allowed (19), and finished second in walks allowed with 16.  Also finished third in the MEAC in ERA (2.85), fourth in opposing batting average (.228).  Threw a seven-inning complete game against Florida A&M (May 5) with just three hits and one earned run along with a career-high 10 strikeouts.  Had another outstanding appearance by pitching 6.1 innings with just one walk and no runs allowed at George Washington (April 6).  Made 10 appearances without allowing an earned run, and four without allowing a hit.

Guilford Tech:  Set school records in his sophomore year with 17 starts, 91.1 innings pitched, and 87 strikeouts as he picked up seven wins.  Threw one complete game and had a team-best 3.35 ERA as his team advanced to the Southeast District Championship game.

High School (Northwest Guilford):  Won two conference championships.

Personal: Born March 13, 1996 in Margate, Florida.  Parents are Donald and Michele Kernen.  Comes from a military family and enjoys fishing, hanging out with friends, and is a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes.  Likes being on the mound in pressure situations.  Majoring in behavioral and social science with a concentration on criminal justice.
