DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University's men's basketball program has earned a few more postseason awards after its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship season as head coach
LeVelle Moton, and seniors
Patrick Cole (Newark, N.J.) and
Dajuan Graf (Charlotte, N.C.) were all recognized as BOXTOROW Division-I All-American and NABC All-District honorees.
Moton was named BOXTOROW Co-Coach of the Year and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 15 Coach of the Year after guiding the Eagles to their second Division-I NCAA Tournament appearance in a four-year span with a 25-9 overall record and a 13-3 mark in the MEAC. Moton also joined John B. McLendon as the only coaches with four 20-win seasons at NCCU. He was named MEAC Coach of the Year for the second time of his coaching career, and the Eagles are ranked as one of the top-10 most improved teams in NCAA Division-I.
Cole adds the honor of BOXTOROW National Player of the Year and NABC All-District 15 First Team to already being named MEAC Player of the Year after finishing in the top-three in the league in scoring, assists and rebounds, and he is in the top-25 in assists in NCAA Division-I. Cole is the second Eagle to be named BOXTOROW Player of the Year after Jeremy Ingram (Charlotte, N.C.) was tabbed in 2014. After the MEAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, Cole finished the year with 19.3 points, 5.6 assists and 7.0 rebounds per contest, and he also made history with the first triple-double in the Division-I era with 14 points, 12 boards and 10 assists against Jackson State on Nov. 18.
Graf also collects two more honors by being named BOXTOROW All-American and NABC All-District 15 Second Team along with being selected Second Team All-MEAC. Graf and Cole were a dynamic duo in the MEAC this season as they finished first and second in assists with Graf dishing out 5.2 per game along with 14.3 points. Graf was one of the most accurate shooters of the season by making 48.9 percent of his attempts, and 39.5 percent of his three-pointers. He also shot a team-best 78 percent from the free throw line.
BOXTOROW has administered the All-America team, honoring the top HBCU players and coaches, since 2009.
