FINAL RESULTS
ELON, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team dropped all of its matches in the season-opening Elon University Fall Invitational over the weekend of Sept. 9-11 at the Powell Tennis Center.
Junior
Jamie Rogers had the Lady Eagles most dramatic match of the event, losing a three-set match to Wake Forest University freshman Alexis Franco. Rogers forced tiebreakers in both the first and third sets, but lost both races to seven points. Franco, who edged Rogers by a final score of 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (2), went on to advance the championship match of the Gold Flight (which was not played with a fellow Demon Deacon making the title contest).
The freshmen Netherlands duo of
Frida Cnossen and
Iris Floet were making their debuts for the Lady Eagles. Seniors
Lynsey Cover and
Tamara Jeremic both had competitive consolation matches, each losing in a third-set superset. Junior
Lauren Mullis also saw the court for the Maroon and Gray.
In doubles action, the NCCU teams of Rogers/Cnossen and Floet/Cover both went 0-3. Jeremic/Mullis went 0-2, with their first loss coming against the eventual Phoenix Bracket winners.
NCCU returns to action at the East Carolina University Invitational at the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility in Greenville, North Carolina, on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24.
