2016 MEAC Baseball Championship Bracket
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University makes its first appearance at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Championship since the 2014 season, and the Eagles will begin their title challenge against Delaware State University on Thursday, May 19 at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland.
NCCU (24-28, 11-13 MEAC) enters the double elimination tournament as the number three seed from the Southern Division, and DSU (13-35, 13-10 MEAC) comes in as the number two seed from the Northern Division.
The winner of this game moves on to face Southern Division champion Florida A&M University on Friday, May 20 at noon.
The Eagles bring a roster with multiple All-MEAC honorees with them to the tournament, including First Team selection
Carlos Ortiz (Cleveland, Ohio). Ortiz clubbed 20 extra base hits, which is second most on the team behind
Conrad Kovalcik (Detroit, Mich.). Ortiz hit nine doubles and nine home runs, and tacked on two triples to drive in a team-high 41 RBI with 91 total bases. Ortiz batted .305 at the dish and slugged .545 with an on base percentage of .398 in his junior year.
DSU is led by Second Team All-MEAC outfielder Austin Bentley (Waldorf, Md.) who drove in a team-best 31 RBI for the Hornets. Bentley picked up 42 total hits with six doubles and slugged .319 with a .318 on base percentage.
