NORFOLK, Va. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis season came to an end on Friday with a 4-1 loss to Florida A&M in the semifinals of the 2016 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion University.
It was the fourth time in five years that the Lady Eagles have advanced to the conference tournament semifinals, but they have yet to play in the MEAC championship title match.
Senior
Aissa Muamba topped off a record-breaking career with her 59th singles victory at NCCU, a school standard in the Division I era. The All-MEAC First Team honoree defeated FAMU's Alexis Dean in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-1).
Muamba's win represented the lone point for NCCU, as the Lady Eagles had to shuffle around their lineup on Friday morning due to the illness of
Jasmine Gabriel, who was slotted at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
NCCU concludes its first season under the direction of head coach
Tom Schrecengost with an overall record of 6-13, including wins in three of the team's final four matches.
