NCCU WOMEN’S TENNIS INKS JASMINE GABRIEL

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's tennis interim head coach Hans Olsen has announced the signing of Jasmine Gabriel to a national letter of intent to play for the Lady Eagles as a freshman for the 2015-16 season.

7998Gabriel will be coming to Durham from Charlotte, North Carolina. She graduated from Olympic High School and played her final prep season with the Trojans. Gabriel played her first three seasons of varsity tennis at Weddington High School.

"We are very excited to have Jasmine Gabriel join our Eagle family," said Olsen. "Jasmine is passionate about her academic goals. She is also passionate about her tennis and her NCCU team. This makes her a great fit for our women's tennis program."

Gabriel had an undefeated high school career in duel matches and was a four-time team MVP while serving as team captain. She went on to win three state singles qualifiers and four state doubles qualifiers.

Gabriel first picked up a racquet at age five and her father, Sterling, and Samuel Joseph served as her primary coaches throughout her childhood.

Other junior tennis accomplishments for Gabriel included winning her first NC State Closed Championship at 10 years old and won every age division in both singles and doubles up to 17. She won the girls 16s doubles in the Bullfrog (Auburn, Alabama) and won the 14s-16s Southern doubles. Gabriel earned the Jay Chitty sportsmanship award out of 350 players at the Cary State Closed Championship and participated in the Zonals at Wake Forest before finishing her junior career as a five-star performer.

Jasmine is the daughter of Nichole and Sterling Gabriel and is one of four children including Gabby, Myah and Sterling II. She is involved with her church and likes to volunteer.
