NCCU BASEBALL RETURNS TO DAP ON TUESDAY TO HOST GARDNER-WEBB

DURHAM, N.C. - Inclement weather has kept the North Carolina Central University baseball team from playing at its home field since Valentine's Day, so the Eagles are looking forward to taking the diamond at Durham Athletic Park on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m. to host Gardner-Webb University.  Admission is free.

NCCU (4-8, 3-2 MEAC) swept a doubleheader from conference rival North Carolina A&T on March 2 in a faux home game at Jack Coombs Field at Duke University. Since then the Eagles lost at UNC Wilmington and won 1 of 3 in a weekend series at Bethune-Cookman.

The NCCU offense is led by junior catcher/designated hitter James Dey (Charlotte, N.C.) as the lone Eagle regular with a batting average over .300. He is hitting .303 (10-for-33) with four doubles, three RBI, three runs scored and five walks. Senior outfielder Ronald Thompson (Chadbourn, N.C.), who is batting .283 on the season, hit 5-for-8 in the last two games with a solo home run, four RBI and three runs scored.

Gardner-Webb (10-5, 0-0 Big South) won 10 games in-a-row after a season-opening setback, but the Runnin' Bulldogs have lost their last four contests, including all three in a weekend series versus Wofford.

GWU is topped by first baseman/designated hitter Sam Fulginiti, who is batting .367 (18-for-49) with five doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored. As a team, the Bulldogs are batting .254 with a .368 slugging percentage, thanks to 26 doubles, three triples and eight home runs in 15 games.

In comparison, NCCU is hitting .223 as a team with a .294 slugging percentage, bolstered by 18 doubles, a triple and two home runs in 12 contests.
