Box Score Box Score: B-CU 11, NCCU 7 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
Ronald Thompson belted a home run and drove in three runs, hitting 3-for-4 at the plate to lead North Carolina Central University, but he was one of only two Eagles to obtain a hit as Bethune-Cookman jumped out to a big advantage and held on for a 11-7 conference victory on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Park.
The other two NCCU hits came off the bat of catcher
Conrad Kovalcik, who also scored a run.
Most of that offense, however, came after the Eagles were already in a huge hole.
Bethune-Cookman (3-13, 3-3 MEAC) scored a run in the first inning, then four in the second and four more in the third. NCCU rookie pitcher
Devin Sweet was the victim in the offensive assault, but only one of the nine runs was earned as the Eagles committed four errors during that time.
Trailing 11-2 heading into the ninth frame, NCCU exploded for five runs, but it was not enough.
With Sunday's win, the Wildcats captured the MEAC weekend series by winning two of the three games.
NCCU (4-8, 3-2 MEAC) returns to action on Tuesday, March 10 for a non-conference outing against Gardner-Webb University at the Durham Athletic Park. Admission is free.
