Alex Dandridge tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout and the Eagles pounded out 11 hits as North Carolina Central University took game two 4-0 over Bethune-Cookman University to manage a doubleheader split on Saturday inside Jackie Robinson Park.
In the opener, NCCU tallied a run in the third inning and maintained that margin through six, but the Wildcats posted three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to claim a 6-1 victory.
NCCU pitcher
Jordan Quinn scattered six hits and allowed just two earned runs over 6.1 innings, but took the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year.
The Eagles amassed 11 hits, topped by a 3-for-4 performance by
James Dey, but they left nine runners stranded.
Eric Kimber,
Carlos Ortiz and
Troy Marrow all contributed two hits apiece, as the first four hitters for NCCU combined for nine hits.
B-CU catcher Clay Middleton went 3-for-3 at the plate, while starting pitcher Alex Seibold allowed only one run in eight innings with five strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.
In game two, NCCU shutout Bethune-Cookman for only the second time in the series (10-0 win in 2013) thanks to Dandridge.
Offensively, four Eagles – Kimber,
Trevor Theissen,
Ronald Thompson and
Conrad Kovalcik – had two hits and an RBI each.
NCCU (4-7, 3-1 MEAC) and Bethune-Cookman (2-13, 2-3 MEAC) face off in the weekend rubber match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
