BOX SCOREDURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team came up with its biggest win of the season in defeating Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division rival Norfolk State University 6-1 in its home opener at the NCCU Tennis Courts on sunny Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans were positioned one game ahead of the Lady Eagles coming into the duel match but the statement win moves NCCU into a tie with NSU and the Lady Eagles will now have a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Spartans.
Both squads finished the day at 4-10 overall and 1-3 in the league. The victory provided NCCU first year head coach
Hans Olsen a 'W' in his home debut.
NCCU clinched the team victory quickly winning both completed doubles matches and then getting straight set wins from the upper half of its lineup in junior
Aissa Muamba (6-3, 6-0), senior
Rebecca Wood (6-3, 6-3) and senior
Ekaterina Nekrasova (6-4, 7-5).
Muamba and Nekrasova lead the Maroon and Gray with matching singles records of 9-5 while Wood moved over .500 at 7-6.

Mia Ramic lost her first set but rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph in the fourth position in the lineup before freshman
Jamie Rogers won the Lady Eagles sixth consecutive team point with a 6-3, 6-4 tilt at No. 5 singles.
It took a senior to keep Norfolk State from being shutout as Krystal Scott won the final singles match 7-6 (2), 6-4.
In doubles action, Nekrasova and Wood partnered up for an 8-3 conquest and Rogers paired up with freshman
Lynsey Cover for an 8-2 success.
NCCU continues its home stand with a non-conference clash against in-state foe UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
