COLLEGE PARK, Md. – North Carolina Central University senior forward
Jordan Parks recorded game-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double, but the 19th-ranked Maryland Terrapins torched the nets in the first half and held off the Eagles in the second stanza for a 67-56 win on Wednesday night inside XFINITY Center.
The loss by NCCU (6-4) is the first since a nine-point setback at Cincinnati on Nov. 25, ending a five-game winning streak. Maryland improves to 9-1 on the season.
With the score knotted at 10-10 following a Parks three-pointer at the 12:17 mark, Maryland netted 18 of the next 20 points, including four straight three-pointers, to open up a 28-12 lead with six minutes left before intermission.
The Terrapins blistered the nets in the opening 20 minutes, making 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) of their field goal attempts, including 5-of-8 from long distance, to improve their cushion to 39-18 at halftime.

Although trailing by 21 points at the break, NCCU continued to battle, out-scoring the Terps 38-28 in the second half. The Eagles held Maryland to just 7-of-21 shooting from the floor after intermission.
On the night, Maryland attempted 21 more free throws than NCCU, as the Terrapins made 18-of-27 from the charity stripe, while the Eagles converted 5-of-6.
Richaud Pack topped Maryland with 17 points, while Jake Layman contributed 15 points and Melo Trimble added 12 points.

Nimrod Hilliard tallied 14 points and four assists, including two alley-oop lobs to Parks for emphatic slam dunks, while
Anthony McDonald collected nine points on three triples, and
Dante Holmes chipped in seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
