NCCU’S MURPHY EARNS ALL-MEAC HONORS AS EAGLES HEAD TO POST SEASON

Murphy Named to All-MEAC Third Team

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Murphy earned her way on to the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball All-Conference Third Team, as the Eagles (4-6, MEAC) earned a four seed entering the 2014 MEAC Volleyball Tournament, the conference announced Friday, Nov. 14.

Murphy completed the regular season leading NCCU in kills with 278 total (2.99 per set) and service aces (37 total/.40 per set), while finishing second among her teammates with 184 season digs (1.98 per set).

The 5-10, Rancho Cucamonga, California, native finished her sophomore regular-season campaign ranking seventh in the MEAC in kills per set, third in service aces per set and fourth in points per set (3.53).

Additionally, after a year hiatus from qualifying for post-season play, the Eagles finished the regular-season with a two-match win streak, earning them a seat in fourth and final eligible spot of the MEAC southern division.

NCCU is set to take on number one northern division finisher, Hampton, during a 1 p.m., match-up on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland.
