NCCU WOMEN’S TENNIS IS EQUIPPED AND READY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY

www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The brackets are set and the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University are ready for Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament action, as they take on the Pirates of Hampton University in round one of racket-to-racket action on Friday, April 13 at 8:30 a.m. in Raleigh, N.C., at Millbrook Tennis Center.

The mighty maroon enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed, ahead of No. 4 Florida A&M and behind No. 2 Bethune-Cookman and No. 1 South Carolina State.  To attain the No. 3 seed, NCCU went 5-2 in conference play, falling to SCSU (6-1) and B-CU (5-2) and completing the season with a record of 8-9.

In singles play, NCCU head women’s tennis coach David Nass has junior Olesya Palko as No. 1, senior Cameron Chatman as No. 2, freshman Ekaterina Nekrasova as No. 3, freshman Rebecca Wood as No. 4, freshman Julia Aguilar as No. 5 and senior Lakisha Mcdougald as the No. 6 contender.  Palko and Chatman will compete as the No. 1 doubles team, Nekrasova and Wood will participate as the No. 2 doubles squad, while Aguilar and Mcdougald will battle as the No. 3 duo.

Palko, who was named All-Conference (second team) is a native of Kiev, Ukraine, completed her junior season 11-5 as the No. 1 singles player.  Alongside Chatman, who was also named to the All-Conference (first team), Palko boasts a 9-3 No. 1 doubles team record, while Chatman finishes her season with best singles record at 12-2.

Nekrasova, who hails from Severdoivinsk, Russia, finished 7-6 as the No, 3 singles player, as Wood, who is native of Nottinghamshire, England, concluded the regular season at 8-5 as the No. 4 singles competitor.  The pair went 7-6 in doubles play.

Aguilar is a Henderson, N.C., who completed her first season in maroon and gray with a record of 0-12 in singles play, paired with Mcdougald, who is a native of Fayetteville, N.C., during doubles play for a No. 3 doubles record of 0-8.  Mcdougald went 0-8 in singles play.
