Chorna, Palko Earn Two Doubles Victories

FARMVILLE, Va. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University split a pair of women's tennis matches during Saturday's day one competition of the 2010 Independent Tournament, hosted by Longwood University in Farmville, Va.

In Saturday's first match, NCCU's No. 1 doubles team of Kateryna Chorna and Olesya Palko earned an 8-4 victory over their opposition from Seattle University, but Seattle captured the doubles point by winning at the No. 2 and 3 positions.

Seattle went on to victories at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles to claim a 4-0 match win over the Eagles.

NCCU rebounded with a 4-1 match victory over rival Winston-Salem State University.

Chorna and Palko teamed up again for a win at No. 1 doubles, while Cameron Chatman and Ashley Rogers won at No. 2 doubles, and Maria Medina and Tatiana Velasquez won at the No. 3 spot.

In singles competition, Palko, Chatman and Velasquez all earned straight-set victories to clinch the team win for NCCU.

The Eagles close out the 2010 season on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. against tournament host Longwood.

After posting a combined seven match victories in their first two seasons of NCAA Division I competition (2007-09), the Eagles currently boast an overall record of 11-14.
