SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Mariana Zottoli shined for North Carolina Central in a 6-1 loss at Wofford on Friday afternoon, scoring the Eagles' lone point of the match.

Wofford (5-3) swept the doubles competition, though NC Central pushed the Terriers in two spots with 6-4 finishes at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At the No. 1 position, Zottoli and Alejandra Hidalgo Vega battled in a tight contest before falling 7-5.

NC Central (2-6) saw several closely contested singles matches. Patricia Palencia (No. 3) and Sara Barbaric (No. 5) each rebounded after dropping their first sets to win the second, forcing deciding third sets, but both ultimately fell. Hidalgo Vega also played a tight match, losing in straight sets that both went to tiebreakers.

Zottoli earned the Eagles' only victory of the day, defeating Wofford's Ella Suk 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles for her third win of the season. Suk entered the match on a five-match winning streak before running into Zottoli.

The Eagles will look to regroup before spending Spring Break competing in Hilton Head, S.C. NC Central is scheduled to face George Mason on Tuesday, March 10, at 9 a.m.
