Series History: Saturday's "Battle of the Eagles" between NC Central and Coppin State features two teams that won their first conference game. NCCU leads the series 19-7 against CSU. The Eagles look for their first victory in four tries at Morgan State on Monday, as the Bears swept the home-and-home series the last two seasons. The Eagles lead the overall series 56-45 over Morgan State.
Scouting Coppin State: Coppin State (3-15) defeated Delaware State in its MEAC opener 53-51. The Eagles score by committee without anyone in double figures, but DeMariontay Hall leads with 8.8 points per game. Hall is also the top rebounder for Coppin State (5.7 rpg). CSU has only played two contests at home, defeating Central Penn and falling to UMBC.
Scouting Morgan State: Morgan State (3-12) fell to Maryland-Eastern Shore last weekend, 66-49. After UMES was up 38-30 at the half, they held the Bears to just 19 points in the second half. Alfred Worrell Jr. is the top scorer for Morgan State at a 15.1 average, with Rob Lawson (13.2) and Elijah Davis (12.8) right behind him. The Bears are second in the MEAC in free-throw percentage (72.6 percent), behind NC Central.
Carvin' the Court: Khouri Carvey heated up against Norfolk State, leading all scorers with 24 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Carvey went 9-of-16 from the field (56.3 percent) and leads the MEAC in field goal percentage (58.2 percent). His performance earned a third MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the senior.
MEAC Minute: Gage Lattimore and Khouri Carvey still reign atop MEAC scoring (18.9) and rebounding (7.2), respectively. Lattimore regained first place in free throw percentage (.893), while Dionte Johnson holds the top spot in assists (5.5), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1) and steals (2.8). As a team, NC Central is second in points (72.1), and first in free throw percentage (.729), assists (14.69), steals (9.50) and turnover margin (+2.50).
