COLLEGE PARK, Md. – In the second day of the MEAC Round-Up, the North Carolina Central men's tennis team defeated Morgan State 6-1 on Saturday at the Junior Tennis Champions Center. The Eagles have won eight matches in a row.
Aside from the team's streak, individual Eagles have also won consecutive singles matches. Leo Fortier-Gariepy has won six straight while Kareem Abdul Hakim is up to five in a row.
NCCU (11-4, 3-0 MEAC) collected the doubles point as all three doubles duos triumphed over their opponents.
Adding to the point total along with Abdul Hakim and Fortier-Gariepy was Rodrigo Alves with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No.3 Singles. Naresh Bharathy joined in winning 7-5, 6-3 at the No.4 slot.
Morgan State (3-13, 0-2 MEAC) earned its first point from Mikeal Carpenter in No.1 Singles over Hugo Hidalgo Vega, ending the senior's seven-match winning streak in singles.
Antoni Pankowski wrapped up the contest in a close No.5 Singles match. After winning the first set 6-2, Pankowski dropped the second 6-7, needing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. The sophomore took the 10-4 tiebreaker for the team's sixth point.
The Maroon & Gray's Round-Up finale takes place on Sunday, March 30 at 9 a.m. versus the Howard Bison at the WTEF – East Capitol Campus in Washington, D.C.
