ORLANDO, Fla. – The NC Central men's tennis team is currently on a four-match winning streak, including its third victory in Florida as the Eagles overpowered Hampton 4-0 on Wednesday evening at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
With the evening coming to an end, both teams agreed to a play-to-clinch match where the first team to score four points would win.
NCCU (7-4, 1-0 MEAC) didn't waste any time earning the first point of the match in doubles. Oliver Saarinen and Naresh Bharathy won 6-2 in No.2 Doubles with Leo Fortier-Gariepy and Antoni Pankowski joining with a 6-3 victory in No. 3 Doubles.
Fortier-Gariepy's No.6 Singles match wrapped up first versus Marko Stoilkovski, 6-1, 6-2, increasing the lead to 2-0.
The next point came from Antoni Pankowski in the No.5 slot over Aryan Arora. The sophomore won 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Hugo Hidalgo Vega clinched the match 6-3, 6-1 against Donte Armbrister. Hidalgo Vega has won four consecutive singles matches totaling a 6-3 record so far this season.
The Maroon & Gray will conclude its Florida trip with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 13. The Eagles face Niagara at 11 a.m. and Findlay at 7 p.m. The first match takes place at Azalea Lane Winter Park and the second match will be at Sanlando Park.
