Eagles Extend Winning Streak With 5-2 Triumph Over FDU

ORLANDO, FLA. – In its second match in Florida during spring break, the North Carolina Central men's tennis team picked up its third win in a row after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 5-2 on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus.

NCCU is now 6-4 this season and the FDU Knights fall to 3-7.

The Eagles opened the match earning the doubles point. After Hugo Hidalgo Vega and Rodrigo Alves won 6-2 in No.1 Doubles, Leo Fortier-Gariepy and Antoni Pankowski followed suit with a 6-3 victory in the No.3 slot.

Fortier-Gariepy and Hidalgo Vega would help the Eagles earn two more points by winning singles as well. In the No.1 position, Hidalgo Vega needed three sets but got the job done. Fortier-Gariepy also fought for three sets after dropping the first set, ultimately winning the final two in the No.5 slot.

Kareem Abdul Hakim was the first singles match to finish, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-2 in No.2 Singles. Naresh Bharathy claimed his third consecutive singles victory after a three-set affair in No.4 Singles.

The Maroon & Gray will face Hampton on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
