NORFOLK, Va. – For the second time this season, North Carolina Central's Khouri Carvey of the men's basketball team was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday morning.
Carvey was one rebound shy of consecutive double-doubles last week, averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds. The senior finished with 13 points and nine rebounds in last Wednesday's victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian in just 22 minutes of action.
The Wilson, N.C. native followed that performance with a 17-point, 11-rebound outing against Longwood, as the game slipped from the Eagles in a final second buzzer-beater by the Lancers. Carvey shot 72.2 percent from the field and totaled five steals and two blocks.
Monday's honor is the first time since the opening week of the season that Carvey garnered this award. The forward leads the Eagles in rebounding and is second in the MEAC in the same category at 6.8 rebounds per game. He's also first in the conference in field goal percentage (57.9).
The next contest for NC Central comes on the road next Monday, Dec. 29 as the Eagles visit the Penn State Nittany Lions at 1 p.m. The game will be available on the Big Ten Network.
