Series History: NCCU battles USC Upstate for the fourth time in its history. The Eagles lead the series 2-1, with the most recent contest being the only loss for NC Central in 2023. The Spartans won 85-82 in the Nest. The slimmest margin of victory was two points in 2021, and the largest was nine in 2019.
Scouting USC Upstate: USC Upstate sits at 3-4 entering the fourth week of the season. The Spartans started 3-1 before dropping the last three games against UNC Wilmington, Tennessee Tech and West Georgia. Carmelo Adkins leads USC Upstate in scoring at 16.4 points per game and is 10th in the nation in three-point field goals made (23). Guard Tyler Smith is second nationally in total steals, with 22 so far.
Last Time Out: NC Central fell 74-55 last Saturday at Dayton. Khouri Carvey led the Eagles in scoring with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Gage Lattimore and Kyric Davis joined Carvey in double figures. The Eagles did a solid job on the boards, but 18 Eagle turnovers led to 20 Dayton points, halting a comeback.
Range Brothers: Tekao Carpenter and Gage Lattimore have been reliable from beyond the arc. The duo has over 20 attempts each, averaging over 50 percent from the three-point line. Lattimore leads the MEAC with 28 makes (51.9 percent), which is fifth-best nationally. and Carpenter sits at 52.2 percent. The Eagles are first in the MEAC in three-point field goal percentage (36.5).
The MEAC Minute: Aside from being first in the MEAC from beyond the arc, the Eagles also lead in free throw percentage (75.3) and assists per game (14.71). Individually, Khouri Carvey tops all rebounding categories in the conference. Carvey is also first in field goal percentage (55.1). Dionte Johnson is second in assists (5.6), assist-to-turnover (2.8) and third in steals (2.6). Gage Lattimore is second in scoring average (20.3).
