NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central's men's basketball guard Dionte Johnson has been selected to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Preseason Second Team. NCCU was picked to finish fifth, announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson heads into his second season as an Eagle after spending his first two years at Maryland-Eastern Shore. The senior finished his 2024-25 campaign averaging 5.6 points, 3.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds. Johnson shot 41 percent from the field and was second in the MEAC in assist average and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9).
The guard's season highs include 18 points against Howard, seven rebounds versus Georgia Southern, and six steals at Coppin State. Johnson passed for a career-high 16 assists against St. Andrews last season, which is now a school record.
The Eagles were picked to finish fifth, tied with Delaware State. Both teams garnered 70 points each. Norfolk State led the way with 118 points, followed by Howard's 97 points. South Carolina State rounds out the top three with 90 points, as voted by the head coaches and sports information directors.
