PHOENIX, Ariz. – Two North Carolina Central University guards, Fred Cleveland Jr. and Ja'Darius Harris, have been selected to play in the third annual HBCU All-Star Game hosted during Final Four weekend in Phoenix at Grand Canyon University announced on Monday. The game features 24 seniors who play for HBCU schools and will take place on Sunday, April 7 at 4:00 p.m. ET airing live on both CBS and Paramount Plus.
Cleveland (Sr., 5-9, Chicago, Ill.) was named the Sam Jones NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the HBCU All-Star Game committee. His scoring average almost tripled this season at 15.3 points per game playing 29 games and starting each one. Cleveland also averaged a team-high of 5.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game in his final season.
Cleveland's season-highs included 30 points against St. Andrews University in December, nine rebounds at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in January and 15 assists at Coppin State University in March. He was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference First Team this season.
Harris (R-Sr., 6-2, Trenton, Tenn.) made huge strides this season going from a 4.4 scoring average to 14.1 points per game. He also shot 83.1 percent from the free throw line in 26 games played. Harris was named to the All-MEAC Second Team this season.
Harris' season-highs included a 21-point performance at Delaware State University in January, 10 rebounds against Longwood University in December and six assists in the Jan. 3 game with Truett-McConnell University.
Both players are set to compete on Team Rick Mahorn with NCCU head coach LeVelle Moton coaching the team alongside Clark Atlanta University's head coach Alfred Jordan.
Three Eagles have been selected for the HBCU All-Star Game in the past as Brendan Medley-Bacon (2022-23), Randy Miller Jr. (2021-22) and C.J. Keyser (2022-21) have competed in this event.
