NCCU’s Murray Named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Jaqai Murray of the North Carolina Central University men's basketball team earned the first weekly honor for the Eagles this season named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week announced on Monday evening by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Murray helped NC Central go 2-0 last week after averaging 13.5 points, eight rebounds and three steals in victories over Virginia-Lynchburg and Carolina University. Murray earned a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double in NCCU's 131-51 triumph over VUL on Nov. 30.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native grabbed eight offensive rebounds for second-chance opportunities through both games and snatched six steals against the VUL Dragons. Murray shot 70.6 percent from the field (12-of-17) and 75.0 percent from the free throw line.

The Maroon and Gray will play Radford University at home on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. before starting a three-game road trip.
