NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior
Daniel Barbare carded his best collegiate round on the way to a top-15 finish in a deep field at the Bash at the Beach hosted by Appalachian State University at the Surf Golf & Beach Club on Monday-Tuesday, March 13-14.
Barbare fired a 67 on the par-71 layout that measured 6,705 yards long in the second round for his lowest collegiate scorecard by one shot, beating a pair of 68s he has turned in over the past two seasons.
The 67 is tied for the second lowest round in program history, one stroke shy of the record-setting 66 fired by Zane Lewis in the 2015-16 season. The four-under par round that featured seven birdies is also a new personal low score in relation to par for Barbare. It matched the NCCU program record for lowest round relative to par, which had been accomplished five over times prior to Barbare on Monday.
Barbare finished even par for the three rounds with rounds of 72, 67 and 74. His 213 total score was good for 13th place out of 108 golfers.
Juniors
Trey Morse (74-78-79—231) and
Kendall Wallace (78-79-75—232) both signed for three rounds in the 70s and they finished one shot apart in the standings. The freshmen duo of
Kyle Gregory and
Kobe Narcisse both chipped in counting scores for the Eagles while classmate
Clay Green made his collegiate debut as an individual.
The Eagles finished 17th, picking up a win against University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Oral Roberts University won the team title with a nine-under par score for three rounds, holding off second-place University of Connecticut by six shots and the host Mountaineers by 13 strokes. Caden Weber of Utah Valley won the individual medalist trophy with an eight-under par 66-70-69—205.
NC Central is next scheduled to host Prairie View A&M University in a match play event that will serve as Senior Day for the Eagles on Saturday, March 25.
