NORFOLK, Va. – Senior guard Fred Cleveland Jr. was named MEAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points and seven assists in two games last week. The news was announced Wednesday by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Cleveland (Chicago, Ill.) broke his career-high in points for the second time this season after scoring 30 against St. Andrews on Dec. 15. His total surpassed the 24 points that he put up at Campbell on Nov. 20.
The Eagles came out victorious at North Carolina A&T on Dec. 12 with Cleveland earning a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists, also a new career-high for the conference leader in assists per game.
Cleveland leads the Eagles in points and assists this season and is also ranked top-10 in four categories in the MEAC. He is currently fifth in field goal percentage (.437), fourth in steals per game (1.7) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6) leading NC Central in those same categories.
NCCU resumes play in 2024 beginning with its final non-conference game hosting Truett McConnell on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
