BRASELTON, Ga. – North Carolina Central University senior
Daniel Barbare tied atop the individual leaderboard and carded a one-under-par 70 in the final round to help the Eagles tie the NCCU record for team low round at the HBCU Invitational at Chateau Elan Resort on Sept. 26-27.
Barbare (Raleigh, N.C.) tallied rounds of 71, 72, and 70 for a career-low total of 213 (E), which is the fifth-best 54-hole total score by an NCCU Eagle, to earn a share of low medalist honors. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native rolled in team-highs of nine birdies and 36 pars on the 6,701-yard course.
In Tuesday's final round, NCCU junior
Kendall Wallace (Blythewood, S.C.) tallied three birdies and an eagle to achieve a career-low round of 71 (E), while freshman
Kyle Gregory (Cary, N.C.) also posted an even-par 71, and junior
Trey Morse (New Orleans, La.) registered a 77. The combined final round team score of 289 ties the NCCU record for low team round, matching the standard set by the 2015-16 squad at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.
Morse tied for 16th place on the leaderboard with a 227 (75-75-77), followed by Wallace in 19th place (80-77-71=228), and Gregory in a tie for 27th (78-84-71=233).
In the team standings, NCCU finished in fifth place out of seven teams with scores of 304, 308, and 289 for a 901 three-round total score. The Eagles' 289 was the second-best team score recorded in the two-day event.
