DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior
Miles Clark has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2022 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
Clark finished his final season leading the Eagles with eight singles wins, which were all earned from the top position in NCCU's lineup, on the way to being named First Team All-MEAC and NCCU men's tennis team MVP in 2022.
Clark, who hails from Rancho Cucamonga, California, was consistent all season and was named MEAC Player of the Week three times (Feb. 9, March 16, April 6). He started his season with noteworthy triumphs over players from Duke University and nationally-ranked Wake Forest University. His success continued with wins over Jackson State University, Tennessee State University and Coppin State University in March before rattling off three straight late-season wins over Longwood University, Norfolk State University and North Carolina A&T State University.
In doubles play, Clark teamed up with senior classmate
Amit Baran for six wins. Clark and Baran won all six matches at No. 1 doubles and they went 4-1 in league play together.
Clark became just the third NCCU men's tennis student-athlete to earn All-MEAC honors twice since the program started competing the league at the NCAA Division I level in 2011-12 (joining three-time winner
Gabriel Cucalon and two-time honoree Theofanis Kontopoulos). He was selected Second Team All-MEAC in 2011 before moving up to First Team distinction in 2022.
In his three seasons at NCCU after transferring in from Riverside City College, Clark accumulated 15 total singles wins and 15 doubles wins (all partnered with Baran).
Clark graduated magna cum laude with a 3.716 cumulate grade point average (GPA), earning a Bachelor of Science degree in social and behavioral sciences. The MEAC All-Academic Team, ITA Scholar Athlete and MEAC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree was also awarded the Debra Saunders-White Leadership Award. Clark will next be playing professional tennis with aspirations to one day open his own tennis academy.
