MIAMI, Fla. – The North Carolina Central men's tennis team extends its postseason with a bid in the 2026 UTR Sports NIT Championship, taking place at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia on May 6-8. It marks the second consecutive year the Eagles will compete in the postseason tournament.
"These teams have battled all season for this opportunity, and UTR Sports is thrilled to elevate college tennis with the fourth annual NIT Championship," said Chase Hodges, UTR Sports Senior Vice President and 23-time national coach of the year.
NCCU enters the NIT as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Chattanooga in a rematch of last year's semifinal. The Eagles and Mocs open the tournament on Wednesday, May 6, at 2:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to face No. 1 Virginia Tech in Thursday's semifinal. No. 2 North Alabama and No. 3 Longwood round out the field. The championship match is scheduled for May 8 at 9 a.m.
In last season's semifinals, NC Central fell to Chattanooga, 4-3. The Mocs went on to capture the championship with a win over Saint Mary's. In the quarterfinals, the Eagles edged New Mexico State, 4-3.
