NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University men's basketball guard
Eric Boone (Lexington, Ky.) has been named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after a strong weekend against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Boone led the Eagles in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game, and tacked on 4.5 steals with 5.0 assists per contest as well. He swiped five steals with eight rebounds against MDES, and collected seven boards with seven assists against DSU. Boone also averaged 11.0 points per game, led by 13 against MDES.
Boone is ranked third in the nation with 2.7 steals per game, and is sixth in total steals with 64. He's also second in the MEAC with 4.0 assists per game. So far this year, Boone is scoring 8.3 points per game, and is averaging 4.2 rebounds per contest.
This is the second time Boone has been named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, and the fifth time the award has gone to an NCCU men's basketball student-athlete. This is also the sixth total weekly award for the Eagles this year.
