DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women's tennis programs, along with coaches
Gabriel Cucalon and
Sofia Rachi, have achieved United States Tennis Association (USTA) Level 1 Coaching Certification as part of the USTA HBCU Workshop Series.
The coaches, and all student-athletes all completed the program at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts on campus at NCCU.
The program combines online and on-court learning to help build the skills needed to teach beginner to low-intermediate level players of all ages. It helps prospective coaches provide safe and organized sessions, set up, manage and coach activities within the warm-up, skill and game elements of the lesson, and create an environment that fosters positive tennis experiences, provides opportunities for early success, and develops a lifetime love for the game.
The Level 1 Coaching Certification is the first step for those interested in pursuing certification with the Professional Tennis Register (PTR).
