DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central had three Eagles named to All-MEAC Teams, announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on Wednesday evening. Rodrigo Alves earned First Team honors, while Naresh Bharathy and Santiago Pinna were named to the Second Team.
Alves picks up All-MEAC recognition for the second time in his career at NCCU. After earning Second Team honors in his first season in the Nest last year, the senior followed up with an 11-6 singles record this spring, including a 3-2 mark in conference play at No. 2 singles and a 4-1 record at No. 1 doubles in the MEAC with Kareem Abdul Hakim. The Porto, Portugal native also recorded non-conference wins over Campbell, Davidson and UNC Asheville.
Bharathy (Tamil Nadu, India) secured his first All-MEAC honor in his final season. The senior posted an 8-9 overall singles record, highlighted by a 4-1 mark against MEAC opponents at No. 1 singles. He also excelled in doubles play, going 13-4 alongside Antoni Pankowski in the No. 2 position. The pair put together an eight-match winning streak and notched wins over UNC Greensboro, Davidson and UNC Asheville.
Pinna impressed in his freshman campaign, compiling a 13-4 singles record while competing across the No. 3 through No. 6 positions. The Tandil, Argentina native went 4-1 in conference play and earned multiple MEAC Rookie of the Week honors. He also put together a nine-match singles winning streak from early February through mid-March, with singles victories over UNC Greensboro, Davidson, UNC Asheville and Fairfield.
The Eagles will host the 2026 MEAC Tennis Championships at Cary Tennis Park from April 23-25. NCCU enters as the No. 2 seed and will begin play on Friday, April 24 at noon against the winner of No. 3 Norfolk State and No. 6 Coppin State.
