NCCU’s Kiaku Selected MEAC Rookie of Week Again


NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman Jerni Kiaku averaged 15.5 points and 3.0 steals per game last week on the way to earning her second MEAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award of the early season as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday.
 
Kiaku scored 10 points and added two rebounds, two steals and one assist in NCCU's 82-41 home victory over North Carolina Wesleyan University on Tuesday. She then capped her big week with 21 points, four steals, one rebound and one assist in Sunday's game against Elon University.
 
The 21 points Kiaku scored against the Phoenix on a precise 8 of 13 (61.5%) accuracy from the field was a new season-high total. She scored 15 of those 21 points in the second half to help give NCCU a chance late at winning again at home before dropping the contest 77-68.
 
Kiaku has now reached double-digit points in four of her first seven collegiate games.
 
The local Garner, North Carolina, resident garnered her first MEAC Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 15.
 
On the season, Kiaku leads the Eagles with averages of 10.7 points and 2.3 steals per game.
