FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. – North Carolina Central standout forward
Aniya Finger was named to the BOXTOROW HBCU Division I Women's Basketball All-America Team on Thursday, March 19.
This is the second honor for Finger, who was named to the All-MEAC team last week.
The Eagles' leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, Finger was selected as a second-team All-American. She averaged 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds. A versatile player, Finger was third on the team with 38 made three-pointers and third in three-point percentage at 42.1 percent.
Finger ranked sixth in scoring and tied for seventh in rebounding in the MEAC. She played her best in conference games, averaging 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds to rank fifth in both scoring and rebounding in league play.
Finger, a graduate student, was a BOXTOROW All-America selection despite starting 12 of 26 games. But she keyed an Eagles' reserve unit that ranked among the nation's top 15 teams in bench points per game.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Finger scored in double figures 17 times including a career-high 30 points to hand Maryland Eastern Shore, the league leader at the time, its first conference loss. Finger added 12 rebounds and six steals against UMES for one of her six double-doubles this season.
