DURHAM, N.C. – Head Coach Olivia Gaines of North Carolina Central recently completed her women's basketball staff with the additions of assistant coach Melvin Perrow II and director of basketball operations Sequoia Lindsey.

Both Perrow and Lindsey joined a staff that includes assistant coaches Brett Vana, Rakim Gregory and Cassie King.

A Charlottesville, Va., native, Perrow arrived at NCCU after stints at Mary Baldwin, USC Salkehatchie and Richard Bland, serving as an assistant at the latter two schools under Gaines. He helped direct Richard Bland to a regional championship and a national junior college runner-up finish in the program's historic first season.

A first-time Division I coach, Perrow comes to NCCU as a skill development and strength-and-conditioning specialist who has designed training programs for collegiate and high school athletes.

"Coach Perrow has been with me at two different stops, so he knows my system, understands how I like things done and brings a level of trust and familiarity that is important as we continue to build this program," said Gaines, entering her first season at NCCU. "His experience, work ethic and ability to develop players will be a tremendous asset to our student athletes."

Lindsey begins her professional career at NCCU after interning at Davidson last season with the football, women's field hockey and women's lacrosse programs. She assisted with practice and game-day setup, gear distribution, daily operations and equipment logistics.

A Sanford, N.C., native, Lindsey graduated from Winston-Salem State where she was the equipment manager on the football team and a game-day operations intern. She also assisted with production and athletic event operations.

"Sequoia is getting her first full opportunity as director of operations in this profession, and from the moment I interviewed her, I could tell she was hungry and ready to work," Gaines said. "I'm thankful for the grind and hard work she has already shown, and she has already made a positive impact on our staff. She is someone who is going to continue to learn, grow and have a ton of success in this profession, and I'm excited to have her with us."

As a student, Lindsey gained extensive experience in basketball game management, NCAA compliance support, venue operations and the overall execution of collegiate sporting events.

Lindsey earned a sports management degree from WSSU this past May.
