GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior Daniel Barbare secured a top-30 finish out of 81 golfers to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University men's golf team at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina University at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club that was contested on Monday and Tuesday.
 
Barbare carded eight birdies over the course of the 54-hole event to lead the Eagles for a second straight week to start the season with a 224 total. He signed for rounds of 77, 71 and 76 on the 7,120-yard, par-72 layout to maintain a 72.83 stroke average per round this season.
 
Junior Kendall Wallace bounced back from an open 85 with a pair of rounds in the 70s to produce NCCU's second best cumulative score. Wallace finished posted a 77 in Monday's second round and then continued to get better with a 75 on Tuesday for a 237 total.
 
Junior Trey Morse matched Wallace with a pair of rounds in the 70s, but withdrew in the middle round not factor in the individual standings. Morse fired a team-best 76 in the opening round and had a 78 in Tuesday's final loop around the course.
 
Freshman Kyle Gregory turned in similar scorecards all three rounds with scores of 80, 81 and 81 for a 246 total. Classmate Kobe Narcisse (88-91-81) once again had his best score in the third round for a second straight week to start his collegiate career.
 
The host Pirates won the 12-team competition by one shot over Gardner-Webb University and William & Mary University. Winthrop University's Nick Mayfield won individual medalist honors with a five-under par total of 211 (72-68-71).
 
NC Central will next compete in the inaugural SAS Championship HBCU Invitational that is co-hosted by the SAS Championship, PGA Tour and the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) at Prestonwood Country Club from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 14-16.
