NCCU MBB: Wright’s Career Weekend Nets Him MEAC Weekly Honor

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University men's basketball sophomore Justin Wright (Greenville, N.C.) had an explosive scoring weekend and set a new career high against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore, and has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Player of the Week for his efforts, the league announced on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Wright posted 20 points or more in consecutive games for the first time in his career over the weekend, and pushed his career scoring high to 21 points at MDES.  He scored seven of NCCU's (8-9, 2-0 MEAC) final nine points, all from the free throw line, against the Hawks, and pulled down a game-high tying six rebounds with a joint team-best five assists.

Wright averaged 20.5 points per game in the two contests, and shot 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the floor, 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from downtown, and 93.8 percent (15-for-16) from the charity stripe.

This is the fourth men's basketball weekly award for NCCU this season, and the second time Wright has been honored.  He earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Dec. 27, however, this is the first career MEAC Player of the Week award for him.

NCCU will return home on Saturday, Jan. 29 to host Howard, and then will battle Norfolk State at home inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Monday, Jan. 31 on ESPNU at 9:00 p.m.
