Who is eligible for tryouts? All young ladies and men currently enrolled in NCCU are eligible for the tryouts for the 2021-2022 JV Cheerleading Program.
 
What are the requirements needed for tryouts?  All young ladies and men must be in good standing with the university. Individuals must be fit, toned and in shape. Young ladies and men should have a great attitude, the ability to take constructive criticism/feedback. Facial expressions and clear, strong voices are a must!
 
What documents are needed for tryouts? Individuals must present the Cheer Application, Application fee of $25, Completed Physical Tryout Form, Sickle Cell Anemia Results, Immunization Record, Waiver Form and Proof of Insurance (front & back of card) mailed by August 12, 2021.
 
Individuals that do NOT turn in all of these items will NOT be allowed to participate in the tryouts in the fall of 2021. The application, physical tryout form, and waiver forms are available online. Sickle Cell Anemia Tests must be completed either at your local Health Department or Private Physician.
 
Is there a height/weight limit? No. However, all young ladies and men MUST be in great physical condition with fit, tight and toned bodies. Young ladies MUST be able to wear the current uniforms and look great in them.
 
Will I be allowed to wear weave and acrylic nails during the tryout process? During the tryout process, women will be allowed to wear weave and acrylic nails. After selections are made, you will have a session to discuss hair and nail options. Hair options for both men and women will be discussed once the final squads have been selected.
 
What will the tryout process consist of? Part 1. Young ladies and men participating in the first phase of tryouts will bring in a cheer and dance routine of their own on August 29. Part 2. Individuals making the first round of cuts will move on to the second phase of tryouts on August 29 where they will learn a cheer and dance routine. Final selections will be made on August 29.
 
How will the scoring be done? Each phase of the tryout process will have scores ranging from 1-10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. The Judges will be instructed prior to the tryout process as to what they should look for. Individuals with the highest scores will advance to the second phase of tryouts. At the end of the tryouts, the Judges will meet to determine the individuals who will be a part of the JV Cheerleading Program for 2021-2022. The Judges' scores are final! Selections are final!
  
What is the attire during the tryout process? Both men and women are to wear black attire. Women should wear cheer shorts (no lycra or spandex), sports bra, white socks, and cheer shoes. Men should wear black shorts (no lycra or spandex), black t-shirt, white shoes and white socks. 
                      
Will I be able to review my scores after the tryout process? Yes. They will be available beginning on Monday, August 30, 2021 in Room 106 in the McDougald-McLendon Arena. Only your scores will be shared with you.
 
Are the tryouts for a particular Cheerleading Squad? Yes. Tryouts are for the JV Cheerleading squad.
 
How many Cheerleaders will be chosen? Up to 12 will be chosen during this tryout.
 
Will I have to purchase uniforms/warmups? No. All uniforms and warmups will be provided by the Athletic Department. Each member of the program will be responsible for the purchase of cheer shoes and socks.
 
INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE CLASSIFIED AS SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS AND/OR SENIORS MUST HAVE A CUMULATIVE GPA OF 2.5 IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN TRYOUTS.
