Eagles Prepare for Return to MEAC Baseball Championship

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University baseball program won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division championship and earned a trip to the MEAC Baseball Championship for the first time since 2016.  The Eagles will begin the festivities with Delaware State on Thursday, May 20 at noon at Mary Miller Field in Norfolk, Virginia.

The tournament follows a double-elimination format, and as the top seed in the Southern Division, NCCU (25-18, 17-11 MEAC) will face the second seed from the Northern Division, DSU (15-26, 13-18 MEAC).  Norfolk State (22-26, 18-10 MEAC) won the Northern Division title, and will face Florida A&M (19-32, 15-13 MEAC) in the second game of the day on Thursday at 3:30 PM.

NCCU and DSU met twice during the regular season, and the Eagles won the series, 5-3.  Of note, the Eagles' last win at the MEAC Baseball Championship came against the Hornets after NCCU scored seven runs in the top of the ninth to win 10-5 in the opening round.

The winner between the Eagles and Hornets will advance to the semifinal round to play on Friday, May 21 at noon, while the loser will play an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
