DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University men's basketball forward
Jibri Blount has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2019 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the community.
Blount averaged 21.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.1 assists per game in seven December contests. He shot 58.4-percent from the field for the month and tallied three double-doubles.
In a couple non-conference home wins, Blount scored over 30 points each time. He bucketed 31 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double in a 109-28 triumph over Christendom College. Blount followed that up with a career-high 33 points on an incredible 13-of-15 precision from the field in a 108-63 conquest of Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
His stellar play going into the New Year helped Blount begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play in dominating fashion earning three consecutive MEAC Player of the Week awards.
The resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, leads the league in field-goal percentage (53.8%) and steals per game (2.5), while ranking second in points per game (20.1) and third in rebounds per game (9.1).
Blount also earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in December. He is currently pursuing a second undergraduate degree in physical education. Blount, who plans to pursue a professional basketball career after NCCU, has recently volunteered with head coach
