NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University put nine hits on the board but Norfolk State held the Eagles without a run on the way to a 5-0 final at Marty Miller Field on Wednesday, April 24.
NSU (17-20) put its first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Caleb Ward (Hampton, Va.) but the NCCU (18-22) kept the Spartans in check from that point all the way until the seventh inning.
NSU in turn held the Eagles at the starting line despite three hits from
Trey Maslin (Franklin, N.C.) and two hits from
Corey Joyce (Lexington, N.C.) which included a double. The Spartans were able to get the insurance runs they needed with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to grab the victory.
The Eagles will begin its final MEAC Southern Division home series on Friday, April 26 against Savannah State on Friday, April 26 at the Durham Athletic Park at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
