DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University posted 41 points in the second half to pull away from Bluefield State to collect its second home win of the season on Thursday, Nov. 21 inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU (2-4) has now picked up a 22nd consecutive win in the series against BSC (2-4), and remain undefeated against the Big Blues.
The first half between the Eagles and Big Blues started slowly, and included the guests taking an early lead. NCCU was able to eventually latch on and closed the half on a 13-4 run to hold a 27-16 lead at the intermission.
Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) poured in 17 points in the first 20 minutes, and finished with a game-high 28 with six rebounds after the Eagles outscored the Big Blues 41-28 in the second half. NCCU shot 40.0 percent from the field in the second half to pull away, and splashed five treys in the second period as well.
Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.) reached double-digits for the fifth time this season with 18 points, and
Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) had a strong game with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
Kobby Ayetey (Apam, Ghana) played 27 minutes off the bench and reached season-highs with seven points and nine rebounds, and swatted a game-high four blocks.
Marquez Cooper (St. Petersburg, Fla.) led the Big Blues with 13 points, and Taj-Maal Toney (Cleveland, Ohio) pulled down a game-high 11 boards with nine points. Teyon Henry (Charlotte, N.C.) also seized double-digit caroms with 10 along with eight points.
The Eagles will head back out on the road as they'll face Southern Illinois next on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
