2019 ITA Carolinas Regional Results

Christos Dagklis and
Thanos Spyropoulos both won a consolation match for the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team at the 2019 ITA Carolinas Regional co-hosted by Duke University and North Carolina State University at the Cary Tennis Park over the weekend.
Dagklis competed in a pair of three-set consolation matches. He notched a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over USC Upstate junior Luka Eble. Dagklis won the opening set of his next match, but Winthrop University senior Gabriel Dias rallied for the 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 triumph.
Spyropoulos netted his lone win in his first consolation match against Coastal Carolina University senior Juan Castellanos. He needed a tiebreaker in the second set to survive the close match by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 (3). Spyropoulos also jumped out to a first-set lead in his next bout before senior Breno Plentz fought back for the 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 win.
NCCU's two Greek players both opened up the 128-player tournament against opponents from Power 5 institutions who were ranked in the top-24 individually of the large field. Dagklis was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill junior Mac Kiger. Spyropoulos was knocked off by University of South Carolina freshman Phillip Jordan.
The Eagles had a couple tandems in the doubles portion of the ITA Carolinas Regional.
Dagklis and Spyropoulos partnered together and forced a tiebreaker in their opening battle before falling 8-7 (1) to the Elon University duo of juniors Kyle Frankel and Camilo Ponce. Dagklis/Spyropoulos lost their consolation doubles match, 8-4, to North Carolina A&T State University junior Jorge Goenaga and freshman Pablo Carranza.
NCCU's senior doubles team of
Pablo Juez Torres and
Sebastian Bromley lost their main draw contest, 8-5, to UNC senior Ladd Harrison and Mark Dillon. Juez Torres/Bromley followed with a narrow 8-6 setback to South Carolina junior Thomas Brown and sophomore Beau Pelletier.
NC Central will next begin its dual match in the New Year with its spring schedule being announced later this fall.
