DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University volleyball senior
Whitney White has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2018 in recognition of her outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom.
White averaged 3.0 kills and 1.1 blocks per set in her last four collegiate matches in November. She also posted a .394 hitting percentage over the last month of the season.
The resident of South Boston, Virginia, produced nine kills and four blocks in a win over Savannah State University and then added 12 kills and three blocks in another win against South Carolina State University.
White was then named to the NCCSIA All-State Volleyball Team for her outstanding senior season.
The middle blocker averaged 2.02 kills and 1.00 blocks per set in 2018 and had a team-best .241 hitting percentage. White ranked second in the MEAC in blocking and eighth in the league in hitting accuracy.
In her career, White played in 100 matches for the maroon and gray and finished with 657 kills and 268 blocks for averages of 1.91 kills and 0.78 blocks per set. She was a reliable attacker as a middle blocker, who tallied a cumulative .217 hitting percentage on over 1,700 swings.
White moved into NCCU's NCAA Division I era record book (since 2007) with her 268 blocks ranking second overall and her 657 kills ranking third best. She has been MEAC Rookie of the Week, NCCU Volleyball True Grit award winner, MEAC All-Academic Team multiple times and NCCU volleyball MVP to go along with other awards and accomplishments as a volleyball student-athlete.
The criminal justice major posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in the fall semester, increasing her cumulative GPA to 3.57. White is also working on a minor in law enforcement. She hopes to play volleyball overseas and plans to eventually use her degree by working her way into law enforcement (with a possible stint as a flight attendant beforehand). White has done countless community service including NCCU blood drive, MLK Volunteer Day, Habitat for Humanity, Durham Sheriff's Department and Halifax Sheriff's Department.
